Welcome to the online home of the Rochester Contact Improv community
Here is one description of Contact Improv, taken from the Orkut Contact Community:
Contact Improvisation is a dance form where two people depend on each other to make a beautiful dance. Like modern dance, like martial arts, like sports, it challenges the individual to develop their kinesthetic sense and bodily ability. Unlike these disciplines, it revels in interdependency and spontaneity. The dance is reinvented in every duet.
If you want to learn more about Contact Improv, you might try reading the Contact Improvisation Wikipedia entry, ContactImprov.net, the book Sharing the Dance, or the journal Contact Quarterly. Some pictures of people dancing might make the form easier to visualize. But we recommend experiencing the dance.
Our jams are held most (but not all) Sundays from 5:30-7pm at Physikos. Beginners are always welcome.
If you want to know if there is a jam on any given Sunday, you can:
The jam is held in at the Physikos movement studio. Physikos is located at 302 North Goodman Street in Village Gate Square, which is part of Rochester's Neighborhood of the Arts.
